Disney Unveiled Its 'Real' Lightsaber And It Ties Into A Cool New Hotel, Too

The first Star Wars film was released more than forty years ago.

Since that time, kids and adults alike have longed for an actual, real-world lightsaber — not some plastic tube that lights up, but a lightsaber that extends and retracts just like the ones in the movies.

Well, my friends, it looks like we're finally there.

Disney released a tantalizing teaser.

An ultra-brief reveal video shows a real lightsaber in action. It was released on Star Wars Day, May the fourth.

It's all part of a larger rollout of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel and experience, which is set to open at Walt Disney World next year.

Here it is.

Disney's reveal didn't say a whole lot about the lightsaber itself — at this time, it doesn't seem like it'll be available for sale.

That said, it sure does look cool, and is effective at building hype for the new Star Wars attraction.

The hotel and experience looks pretty wild.

Concept art shows something (besides a lightsaber) that fans have dreamed of for years: the possibility of entering the Star Wars universe, complete with costumed characters and realistic sets.

It's a complete experience.

Fans start by checking in at this fancy entrance, which appears to be located on Endor (actually, it's gotta be somewhere in Orlando). From there, they're whisked into an immersive experience.

Disney has lots of experience in creating realistic fantasy worlds, so this should turn out well.

They want fans to feel like "they're on board a ship."

There's a lot of hype, but so far we don't know a whole lot about pricing, opening dates, or, crucially, lightsabers. Still, this makes 2022 a big year for any Star Wars fan.
