Clever Food Tray Hack Keeps Food Sitting Out Fresh for Hours

Keeping food fresh is a struggle I was not prepared for when I entered adulthood.

No one tells you how hard it is to not let food spoil! Luckily, one clever TikTok user decided to share her method for keeping her food fresh, and it's lowkey a game-changer.

Alright, so say you're having a party.

I'm writing this in 2021, so this party is only possible if everyone is fully vaccinated, but still. Make like Shannon (aka @livingonlife101 and get yourself two foil pans.

Time to do the damn thing.

Fill the pan with water! Don't put too much, because we do not want spillage. You're throwing a party, you don't need the extra hassle of scrambling to find a towel before the water hits the floor.

Pop that baby in the freezer.

So, Shannon didn't leave the pan in for too long, as evidenced by the next picture. If you're doing this hack, maybe leave it in for at least an hour.

Boom, ice.

See what I mean about the ice? It definitely needed a bit more time in the freezer, but anyway. The point is that it's cold, which was the goal all along!

Layer your pans.

And now, you have a way to keep your veggies ice cold while they sit out at your party. You love to see a hack that is not only cheap but genius, too!

Commenters had some useful tips.

Okay, Melinda! Blow my mind with that one! She's right, laying a towel underneath both pans will save you cleaning up a water mess later. Melinda, you're a genius.

Here's yet another good tip:

Apparently, adding salt to ice will stop it from thawing. This goes against everything I've ever understood about salt, but apparently it's an old restaurant trick! Who knew?

Some people thought of some shortcuts.

I have to agree with Amber on this one. Just adding in ice would make for an uneven surface. Making a sheet just seems easier in the long run.

What do you think of this hack?

I think it's brilliant. It requires very little effort but yields maximum results. This would be a great way to keep things fresh at a party, or even while cooking!
