Woman's High-Risk Hack To Get Free Shirt From Disney World Draws Controversy

There are few things in life that inspire more curiosity than the prospect of being let in on a secret. And as it turns out, it doesn't even necessarily matter what that secret is about.

That likely has a lot to do with why life hacks are so popular and why it feels a little special to know about the secret menu items you can ask for at certain fast food restaurants. The idea that we've missed something hiding in plain sight for so long can make even the most mundane parts of our lives more interesting.

As you might expect, that goes double for a place that's been hyped up for decades as the happiest place on Earth.

But if a way into that secret bends the limits of our ethics — as one TikTok user's sneaky idea recently did for some of her peers — those who share it may get a chillier reception than they expected.

On May 19, a woman who goes by @amandaaadimeo on Tiktok posted a video detailing how she ended up getting a $75 shirt from Walt Disney World for free.

As she explained, she arrived in an outfit that showed more skin than the park's dress code allows.

Although she couldn't speak for the other parks at Disney World, she came away from the experience with the understanding that if you do this at Magic Kingdom, they'll write you a ticket so you can get a free shirt at the nearest gift shop.

Using this strategy, she said she was able to select whatever shirt she wanted and ended up with the fairly expensive mechandise we see here as a result.

As Business Insider reported, her experience attracted no shortage of commenters who also wanted to try a similar idea the next time they visited Disney World.

However, just as many viewers were far less impressed with her as one said, "Oh cast members despise people like you," and another added, "Please don't abuse this. They'll just pull the feature & send people back to change."

There are multiple ways in which a visitor could potentially violate Disney World's dress codes.

As the park's website explains, these can include "objectionable tattoos," clothing that drags on the ground, excessively torn garments, and anything that features offensive slogans or logos or shows off more skin than is considered appropriate for a family environment.

It's also worth noting that if you try @amandaaadimeo's hack for yourself, there's a very good chance that it won't go as well for you as it allegedly did for her.

Disney World's website also says that staff reserve the right to deny guests entrance or remove them from the park if they violate its dress codes. Thus, wearing inappropriate clothing might just get you turned away at the door.

And this seemed to be confirmed by the video's critics, who saw the woman's free shirt as more the result of luck than any surefire hack.

One Disney World cast member said those tickets aren't always given out, while another person wrote, "They don't give things away that are over $50. Also, they don't give things away very often. It's very rare."

So even if you think it's worth the hassle to get a free shirt, bear in mind that it's potentially more likely you could end up with nothing.
