Viral PSA Urges People To Check Their Pool Noodles For Snakes

With summer about to be in full swing, many of us are more than a little eager to start having some fun in the sun. However, when it comes to our colorful pool noodles, it's a good idea to check for snakes. That's right, snakes like to hang out in them, so it's best to check them ASAP to avoid an unpleasant surprise.

Sometimes snakes slither in when you're not using your pool noodles.

During the colder months, many of us don't have much use for our pool noodles. Unfortunately, the snakes do. They're looking for a cozy place to stay, but most people have no idea there may be something living in their pool noodle.

An Arizona fire department discovered one of many cases.

Firefighters in Buckeye, Arizona received an unexpected report one day from a concerned family that discovered rattlesnakes in their pool noodle. Following this discovery, the firefighters issued an official pool noodle alert for others to check theirs regularly.

Snakes are drawn to dark places.

Snakes prefer to burrow in insulated places to avoid predators and maintain a stable temperature, which is why they take refuge in pool noodles. People often leave them out in easily accessible outdoor areas.

Try storing your pool noodles inside.

When you're not using your pool noodles, it's probably a good preventative measure to store them inside somewhere they're safe from the snakes and other critters.

It's also safe to just buy new ones each Summer.

The great thing about pool noodles is that they cost virtually nothing. This means that it's easy to just get some new ones each year without having to worry about the old ones after Summer ends.

Excessive heat can kill snakes.

Even if you're using your pool noodles regularly during the summer, snakes may still decided to make a surprise visit. This is because snakes can die due to excessive heat during the summers and cling to pool noodles to survive.

If the risk still freaks you out, you can opt out of pool noodles.
