After the passing of beloved *Jeopardy* host Alex Trebek, various celebrities have begun auditioning for the role.

One of the frontrunners is renowned actor Levar Burton, who's perhaps best known for playing Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation. 90s kids will also remember LeVar from the educational after-school classic — The Reading Rainbow.

With his temporary tenure as host of *Jeopardy* set to premiere tonight, LeVar is opening up about the experience.

"I’ve jumped out of airplanes. I’ve walked over hot coals. This was a real challenge," he explained to AP News.

LeVar said that the shadow of Alex Trebek still hangs high in the studio and that the entire process was not only stressful but scary.

"The pressure, the natural tendency was to want to live up to Alex’s example, his legacy," LeVar said.

After the taping of his first episode had finished, LeVar was left feeling like he could have done more. He resolved that for the remaining four episodes, he'd be himself and try to enjoy the moment.

LeVar conveyed that though he's hopeful he'll become *Jeopardy*'s permanent host — the job isn't his ultimate goal.

"The most important thing is that I went for it and my passion was rewarded," LeVar concluded.
