Designer Upcycles 170 Target Shopping Bags Into A Stunning Gown

One thing that I know I have too much of is — plastic bags. In fact, I just cleaned out our kitchen's under-the-sink area, which was full of them. We now store most of them in the garage.

But what this one woman did with her influx of plastic Target bags is truly stunning. The lady has mad sewing skills. Check it out.

Kailey Schmitt was looking for fabric during the pandemic while the stores shut down.

She didn't have enough of it on hand, so she had to improvise. An idea struck her to reuse something she had too much of and that was plastic Target bags.

Kailey decided to make a gown out of them.

She even asked friends to donate their unused ones as well. In the end, she turned 170 bags into the most imaginative creation she's ever done. And you've got to see it to really appreciate it.

What did I tell you, huh? Wow! Isn't it stunning or what?

The dress featured a sweetheart neckline (her husband's idea) and a full skirt constructed from tiers of plastic bags. It also has a side slit so she can show off some leg. Nice!

In addition to that, Kailey made a massive bow embellishment in the back.

Talking about a dramatic effect, right? I can't believe how gorgeous this plastic Target bag dress has turned out. Of course, she had to do a photoshoot inside of Target, ha, ha!

It took her six months to perfect her creation.

Oh my! If that's not the ultimate commitment, I don't know what is, ha, ha! She actually gathered each plastic bag from the bottom and pinned them together to create this stunning tiered effect.

I honestly can't get over how amazing this dress looks here.

I love how Kailey made the skirt look so full even though she used plastic shopping bags. The only other materials she used were threads, elastic, and a zipper.

I want you to see it in its full glory, so check out Schmitt's video here.

It's so cool that she was able to do this with the items she already had in the house. This dress is the ultimate upcycle project.

I wonder if she will ever embark on another project like this again.

I think she definitely should. Perhaps next time she can use Ikea's famous blue and yellow bags. What do you think of that idea? I bet she can make something amazing out of them.

I have to admit I'm so impressed with this lady's sewing skills.

I mean, to make such a stunning gown out of plastic bags? That's some talent. Do you agree with me? Which part of the dress do you love the most?
