According To These Stories, People Do Some Pretty Terrible Things At Funerals

If there's ever a time to be on your best behavior, it's during a funeral.

People are extremely sensitive when they're mourning and you want to do your very best to honor the life of the deceased.

But did that stop people from acting like total jerks at funerals? Nope — these stories are proof of that. These are truly shocking.

Bringing kids to a funeral is a crapshoot: you never know what's going to happen.

Unfortunately, this Redditor witnessed a very misbehaved child give a wet willy to the corpse. Yep, he stuck his wet finger inside their dead ear...

The dirty laundry.

"The gentleman had a large family and all of his siblings got up and made it all about themselves, dredged up old family drama, made it clear that they resented his wife, etc. It was so painfully awkward." -u/Abbreviations-Odd

The abandonment.

"One of my students' mother died. I went to the funeral with the principal and the student's integration aide. After the funeral her father walked up to her and her grandmother and said 'I want her out of the house by tomorrow morning.' She was 11 years old." -u/MrsAlwaysWrighty

The laughing fit.

While there are several emotions to grief, laughter isn't usually one of them.

Regardless, this Redditor had a hysterical laughing fit at their father's funeral right when people started to gather at the mortuary. "I kinda lost it."

The stealing aunt.

"My aunt started stealing from the facility the second the employees back was turned. Just shoving anything that wasn't nailed down into her purse and pockets. Unbelievable. And yes we called her out and made her put it all back." -u/Korsola

The evil wife.

"Straight up skipped over the allocated time for the living twin to get up and speak about his brother. Who was his last remaining immediate family. I don't think I can ever forgive the late wife for putting him through that." - u/teuthexx

The distasteful ex.

NBC

This Redditor attended the most uncomfortable funeral ever.

The deceased's ex spoke about all the great things she did in bed and what a loss for mankind that is... in front of her current boyfriend.

The angry uncle.

"My uncle was pissed about something in my grandmother's Will. So during the funeral, he went out to the parking lot and keyed everyone's car. It should be noted, he has severe brain injury from a motorcycle accident that causes him to be constantly angry and paranoid. Still..." - u/PancakeExprationDate

The competition.

"My nan told my dad at his own father's funeral that her pain was much greater because she had lost a husband, while he had only lost his dad. As if grief is a competition." - u/lanidvah

The business cards.

Remember when Dwight Shrute tried to sell paper at Cece's baptism in The Office?

Well, one stepfather was even more appalling when he started handing out business cards at his stepdaughter's funeral. "There was very nearly a fistfight!" the Redditor wrote.

The pocketed donations.

"My grandpa died. His son (my uncle) went around asking for money to give to his now widowed mother. He collected around $500 USD worth of donations from family, friends etc. he pocketed it, and my grandma didn’t receive [expletive]." - u/VCF1127

The rude guest.

"My cousin's wife was kicking the back of my chair at my granda's funeral. Also carrying on a conversation with my sister (who was supposedly really sad) the whole way through the service. For context, I was 14 and my cousin's wife was in her mid to late 30's." -u/deleted

The hitman.

This next one sounds straight out of a movie! The Redditor wrote that a guy disguised himself as a nun and tried to shoot the deceased's son since they had refused to honor their dead father's debt.

The tantrum.

"At my grandfather's funeral one of the choir members essentially threw a tantrum and ended up interrupting one of my uncles who was giving a speech just because she wasn't given any food. The thing is there wasn't any food at the funeral to begin with." -u/forged_inferno

The monster-in-law.

"My Mother in Law took a photo of a wine glass during the lunch we had after, and she posted it on Facebook. Guess what her caption was? 'Life is Grand.' It was my mother’s funeral." -u/kellywithayy

The drunk.

At the funeral this Redditor attended, a friend of the family with a notorious drinking problem showed up to the visitation and service extremely intoxicated.

At one point, she tripped and face-planted onto the ground.

The insensitive.

"My uncle died and at his funeral my cousin (his son) was crying. Some old timer uncle came up to him and said “stop crying you’re a man you’re embarrassing us”. I never wanted to slap someone at a funeral more than at that moment." - u/Introvertedpanic

The drug dealer.

"My cousin died at 14 years old from taking a dodgy ecstasy pill at a party. At her funeral another cousin's boyfriend then proceeded to try and sell drugs. At her funeral. Last I heard her dad found him and he and his friends kicked the guy's teeth in." -u/saturnbands182

The pervert.

Funerals are the most inappropriate place to hit on someone, much less a 12-year-old.

Yet, this Redditor witnessed an older guy hit on a young girl at their aunt's funeral. There's just so much wrong with this.
