Instead Of Baby Showers, Expecting Moms Are Throwing 'Nesting Parties'

If a friend or family member you know is pregnant, you can expect to get them a gift or some money as a way to help them prepare and congratulate them on having a child. However, what if you could do more to help?

Nesting parties are becoming popular among young mothers, in which they ask friends to give more of a helping hand rather than just a gift.

It's safe to say that motherhood has changed a lot over time.

Modern soon-to-be moms have played around with many of the traditional expectations for motherhood, putting their own spin on it that allows them to be more secure when welcoming a new baby home.

One example of this is the concept of 'nesting parties' replacing the familiar baby shower.

Think of them like more practical versions of a baby shower.

Both are fun celebrations, but while the baby shower focuses has more of a toned-down party vibe with gifts and such, a nesting party asks guests to help with tasks that will aid the family in preparation for the baby's arrival.

One mom on TikTok showed off what her nesting party entailed.

Allegra Gast, username @aloha.nutrition, made a post detailing what she asked her guests to help with during their visit and how it was all set up.

She's a huge fan of the concept, captioning the video with, "Because Nesting Parties should be the new Baby Showers right?!"

The opening shot shows quite the set up.

There's a chalk sign welcoming her friends and a countertop with snacks and drinks, from which people are helping themselves.

It then gets to the nesting details. On-screen text reads, "Laid out all the tasks with supplies that I wanted to get done," as the camera pans over said supplies.

Then some examples are given.

Some of the tasks Gast had her party help complete included stocking a nursery cart, meal prepping, organizing the nursery, creating bags of toys for her toddler, and preparing a specialized basket full of bathroom supplies.

Her video got quite a bit of love, sitting at 1.7 million views and just over 250k likes!

The comment section was alight with love, people adore this idea!

"This is the best idea I have ever seen!" exclaimed one commenter, "I wish this had been thought of for me. Mental note for ANYONE in the future!"

"[Everybody's] always saying 'tell me if I can do anything', this is a new way to solve it & hang out! Looks fun!" said another.

Though it may not be what you'd expect from a prenatal party...

There's no denying the help it provides the mother! It's a great way to support someone already going through a stressful time and allows the guests to feel like they really made a difference.
