Britney Spears' Dad Has Been Officially Suspended From Conservatorship Role

It may have taken 13 years to get to the point, but recent months have seen the case of Britney Spears' conservatorship move faster than ever.

Following some explosive court statements detailing just how restrictive and demoralizing this arrangement has been for Spears, she was empowered to hire her own lawyer and both she and her father Jamie Spears have filed to end it.

In that time, Spears' father had also indicated a willingness to step down as overseer of her finances. However, any statements to that effect hadn't indicated any specific timeline for doing so, merely saying that it would occur "when the time is right."

Yet a recent development in the case has made it clear that this time has come whether he likes it or not.

Back in July, Spears' attorney Mathew Rosengart filed to have her father removed from his role in her conservatorship.

According to Good Morning America, Rosengart described the current arrangement as a "Kafkaesque nightmare" for Spears that has "grown increasingly toxic and is simply no longer tenable."

In a later statement reported by People, he added, "This man does not belong in her life for another day" and cited a 2019 restraining order that Spears' teenaged sons Sean Preston Jayden James had against their grandfather.

And on September 29, it seemed that Judge Brenda Penny of the Los Angeles County Superior Court agreed with this assessment.

She ordered the elder Spears' immediate suspension, which she said was necessitated by a "toxic environment" and is in his daughter's best interest.

According to People, Rosengart addressed reporters outside of the courtroom, saying, "It's a great day for justice. She's very happy. We're all very happy."

With her father out of the picture, the financial aspects of her conservatorship will be presided over by a certified public accountant named John Zabel until December 31.

However, whether he will actually need to fulfill this position for that long will likely depend on the outcome of a November 12 hearing in which the court will reportedly make a decision regarding the conservatorship's termination.

Although he has yet to file the relevant paperwork, Rosengart has stated that he is seeking to end the arrangement in full before winter rolls around.

And while she hasn't made any explicit statements about this development, it seems that Spears has found her own way to celebrate.

Shortly after the decision was made, she posted the Instagram video you see here in which she was apparently learning to fly a plane.

Her caption expressed that this is her first time doing so, but it also began with "On cloud 9 right now."
