People Are Not Super Into Mom's 'Hack' For Rinsing Veggies

Many social media profiles are popular because moms and homemakers share hacks and tips for keeping their home clean, organized, and neat. People who are busy and have packed schedules love seeing some homemaking hacks that can make our lives easier and a bit more smooth. So, we follow tons of homemakers on TikTok and Instagram to see videos and tips.

One Instagram user, Carolina, is popular for her cleaning hacks.

Carolina has over 600,000 followers on her Instagram page, where she posts videos that can help others clean their home, kitchen, clothes, and even speed up the processes that can often times be a nuisance and too long.

Recently, she shared a hack in which you can use the dishwasher to clean multiple things.

While we all use our dishwasher to clean dishes, and sometimes a few other things, Carolina says you can wash a few more things in there. First up, she shares you can wash your kid's toys in there to get all those germs off.

Carolina says you can also clean your sponges.

Sponges can get rather gross and grimy if you don't wash them well enough. So, Carolina suggests that you can wash them fully in the dishwasher and you can get all that grime out of there with a good wash cycle.

However, her last suggestion turned some heads.

She also suggested that you can wash your fruits and vegetables in the dishwasher, too. She showcased her own dishwasher where she placed several different types in there, in order to "clean them off" and get all that dirt off of them.

She shared they come out "squeaky clean."

Carolina also shared the celery that came out "squeaky clean" and showcased how there is no dirt on it at all. It seems pretty logical, right? Turns out, not everyone is on board for this type of cleaning hack at all.

Many said absolutely not.

While many Instagram users love Carolina's tips and tricks, they said that they're not going to get behind putting veggies or any food in the dishwasher — no ma'am. Not for nothing, we can't disagree, it seems a bit excessive for washing them off.

Others wondered if the produce would get soggy.

As we all know, dishes get clean in the dishwasher because they use heat and steam. Think about all of that heat and steam on fresh fruit and veggies — it's not crazy to think that the food would get gross, rotten, and soggy.

Others said that it's "too much."

While cleaning fruits and vegetables are important, many said that doing this is "too much." Another said that you can still have a ton of chemicals and soap in the "sprinkler" which can make your fruit need to be washed again regardless.

One person said that the dishwasher uses "less water" than the sink, though.

The hack was supposed to be to help conserve water and to help with cleaning things efficiently. And, this Instagram user agrees. They shared that the sink can take more gallons of water to use than the dishwasher in the first place.

Someone pointed out another hack was not great, either.

While the sponges seem like a good idea, another Instagram user said that it's a bad idea and can break your dishwasher. They shared that the pieces can fall off with the heat and get stuck in the sprayers, then the sprayers won't work.

So, while this hack may not be great, Carolina's other hacks are!

While some people agree that the veggie and fruit hack isn't it for them, Carolina's page has a ton of other hacks that work, show promise, and got her 600,000+ followers. We all miss the mark every once in a while.
