Popeye's Workers Fired After Viral Vid Shows Them Messing With Sandwiches

I can't even think of a menu item that has taken the internet by storm quite like the chicken sandwich at Popeye's. No nugget or cheesy fry or burger stack has come anywhere close to the hype this sandwich is getting.

Really, if you can even get your hands on a chicken sandwich at Popeye's, you're in luck.

How popular is this thing? Well, when was the last time you saw literal lines wrapping around the building at Arby's? Or Chick-Fil-A? Or McDonald's, even? And this is happening on the regular right now.

People are talking this sandwich up online so much that it accounted for about $23.25 million in free advertising over the first 11 days after its launch.

The high demand for the sandwich may have led some Popeye's workers to act out, however.

As a viral video shows, some Popeye's workers in Louisiana decided to get up to some mischief when putting together some sandwich order, and they had to face the consequences after the video was shared online.

Among other things, the video shows a worker dumping a large container of pepper into a container of mayonnaise, to laughter in the background.

That's likely the spicy mayo used on the chicken sandwich, being sabotaged with an extra large dose of pepper.

"This gon' make they f------ a---- stay home," someone says.

Another section of the video shows a worker dousing two sandwiches with an unknown liquid.

And dipping the chicken into that same liquid before placing it onto the sandwich, again to laughter.

When reached for comment, the location's manager said they were aware of the video, and that all involved had been fired.

"All I can tell you is that those people no longer work here," the manager told KLFY, "and if you need any other information you can call the higher-ups at 1-800-Popeyes."
