'Tutu Girls' Who Fought Cancer Together Rally Around Friend Whose Cancer Has Returned

Four little girls are proving that cancer is no match for their strength and friendship.

After growing up and fighting cancer together, these girls have started a yearly tradition that has captured people's hearts across the country.

Their secret weapon against cancer? Tutus — gold ones, to be exact.

In 2016, four little girls became friends in one of the most unlikely of places.

The four girls and their families met at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in Florida, and bonded over their fight against cancer.

McKinley, Chloe, Lauren, and Avalynn donned their tutus and posed for this photo back in 2016 while they were undergoing treatment.

In between their rounds of chemo treatment, the four girls still managed to find some time to play dress-up and make new friends. Their photo quickly became a source of inspiration for hospital staff and a yearly tradition for the girls.

In 2017, the girls reunited, this time with glittery gold tutus.

Each girl wore a shirt with an inspirational word: Brave, Strong, Fearless, and Warrior.

Then came the photo the photo hospital staff and their families were waiting for.

In 2018, all four girls learned that their cancer was in remission. They all wore identical shirts proudly with the word "Survivor" to celebrate this incredible milestone.

The story of the "tutu girls" as they are known, quickly went viral.

The girls' photos were featured prominently on the hospital's social media pages and covered in a number of publications.

This year, the tutu girls reunited once again but this time it was to support one of their own.

Lauren's cancer returned, so when Avalynn, Chloe, and McKinley visited the hospital it was to cheer her up and encourage her to keep fighting.

As in past years, the girls wore their tutus and created new shirts in honor of Lauren.

This year's message was simple but important: Never Give Up.

Lauren's visit from her friends certainly raised her spirits.

“It was just very uplifting to see them," Shawna, Lauren's mom, said. "When they walked in the door, her eyes just lit up. There was laughing and giggling and as a parent, it was so encouraging to see them.”

When it comes to true friendship, nothing — not even cancer — can stop it.
