24 Clever Little Things That Make All The Difference

Life is busy! We're constantly pulled in a million different directions, which makes it crucial to use our time wisely. Of course, when we're trying to rush through life in order to get everything done, it's easy for small nuisances to drive us nuts.

Luckily, for every little problem, there's someone out there who manages to find a genius solution. And these clever little things can add up and make a big difference in your day!

1. You can use your finger to extend the range on your car remote.

By placing your finger on the end of the remote while you point it at your vehicle, your entire body acts as an antenna and increases the range. Someone used this technique to unlock their car from three stories up and across the street!

2. Staying in a hotel can be a treat, but it can also leave a lot to be desired, depending on where you stay.

If you have a hard time sleeping unless it's completely dark and your hotel curtains won't close tightly, use one of the pant hangers from the closet to hold them together.

3. Waste not, want not!

If you have a bunch of notepads with a few blank pages left, tear the pages out and hold them together with a binder clip. Now you have a scratch pad that's perfect for jotting down quick notes and lists.

4. Stay organized and protect your headphones from spills and destruction with an inexpensive banana hanger!

While there's nothing inherently wrong with just laying headphones on a surface, it does put them at risk of being damaged. It's also nice to keep an organized office space.

5. Sticking a Post-It under the pocket of a binder and lifting it up makes it way easier to slide paper in.

This will also help to keep the bottom of your papers from getting crumpled.

6. Reduce impulse buys by saving items you want — but don't necessarily need — to a wish list.

Every time you think about the item, put a check next to it on your list. At the end of the month, go back and tally up the marks. It will show you which items you actually want and are worth the purchase.

7. Make the perfect breakfast sandwich egg patty by spraying a mug with cooking spray, then adding 1-2 eggs.

Beat them with a fork, then microwave for 1-2 minutes (depending on your microwave). They'll cook more evenly if you take them out after 30 seconds, stir, then finish cooking.

8. Use an oversized carabiner to carry all your groceries in one trip!

It will save you from getting those uncomfortable welts from the bag handles digging into your skin. Plus, it has the added bonus of keeping the contents of the bags from spilling out (if you thread the handles when you load them).

9. If you love a good backrest pillow, keep it clean by throwing a t-shirt on it as a pillow cover.

Bonus points if you use a long-sleeve shirt and stuff the end bits of the arms with something soft. Now you can hug yourself while you rest.

10. Save time by creating a keyboard shortcut for your email address.

This way, anytime you have to enter it, all you have to do is type, for example, "@@" and autocorrect will change it for you!

11. Anything that removes barriers is a total win in my books!

This Rubik's cube uses braille rather than colors, enabling people with vision loss to also enjoy the popular puzzle.

12. Prevent tears when cutting onions by turning on your hood fan.

Reddit | IamTheHulk

Cutting the onions directly below the range hood will suck up all the irritants, saving your eyes! It also helps if you avoid cutting the root of the onion (the part at the very middle), since that's where the majority of the irritants come from.

13. Keep your chargers from falling behind furniture when you unplug them.

Just use a thumb tack to secure a paper clip to the back of the furniture, then thread the charger through the paper clip. You won't even notice it's there since it's at the back.

14. Thread a needle easily by laying the thread across your hand, then rubbing the eye of the needle over the thread back and forth.

Reddit | EngineerScientist

The thread will begin to bunch and will push itself into the eye of the needle, making it easy to grab and pull through.

15. Repurpose an old crib as a tie rack.

This actually looks super fancy and makes for a much cheaper closet modification if you happen to have an old crib hanging around.

16. When buying ice cream, press on the top of the container.

If it has been stored properly, it will be solid and the lid won't move. But if it depresses, that means the ice cream has been thawed and refrozen.

17. Improve your phone's charging ability by cleaning out the charging plug.

Reddit | CryptoHermes

Dust and lint will accumulate inside, reducing charging efficiency. Use a toothpick to gently pull out all the junk. Other tiny objects (like a needle) will work, but it's safer — for you and your phone — to use a non-conductive material.

18. If you have little kids around the house, chances are you have some type of outlet cover.

They're pretty small, making them easy to lose. A clever way to keep from losing them is to stick them right on the base of the cord. The prongs are spaced for a perfectly snug fit.

19. Prevent Tupperware from flipping over in the dishwasher by using an upside down metal dish rack.

Reddit | thecatunderthebed

It will hold the lightweight containers in place and prevent that nasty buildup of dirty water from happening.

20. Place a paperclip at the end of a roll of tape so it's easy to find.

Reddit | BDFD

Sure, the fold-over method works great, but then you have to cut or tear off part of the tape each time you use it.

21. Don't risk burning your fingers when your candle wick is low.

Reddit | dabigcheeba

Instead, use a piece of uncooked spaghetti to light a wick that's too far down to reach. Just remember to run the spaghetti under water when you're done to make sure it doesn't keep smoking. Fire safety, people!

22. Cut away the middle part of a tube to get your money's worth from lotions and creams.

Reddit | wankrrr

Keep the end piece so you can still close the tube. If you prefer, you can close the open end with a binder clip.

23. This is brilliant! As soon as I saw this, I wondered why I hadn't thought of it.

Reddit | K_Tenshi

If your touch screen breaks, there's still a way to keep using your phone! But you'll have to carry around a mouse, so this is more of a temporary fix until you can fix or replace your phone.

24. When disassembling something, punch your screws through some cardboard and label the sets.

Reddit | KaiserBobby

It will keep you from losing your hardware and make it easier to remember the placement and order of parts when it comes time for reassembly.
