Jimmy Carter Turns 95 Today And Is Now The Oldest Living Former US President

There are some jobs that require an incredibly high stress threshold to do, which scares a lot of us away from them.

For instance, it's probably fair to say that the average person would likely consider the prospect of having to perform brain surgery or control air traffic a complete nightmare. But although the more ambitious among us dream of one day becoming President of the United States, that position is arguably even more stressful and carries incredible responsibility.

For that reason, it's not a surprise that we can essentially see the job accelerate people's aging in real time. So when someone manages to not only survive the toll that responsibility takes on them, but thrive to a record-breaking degree, they prove themselves as truly remarkable.

It seems like the perfect day to show how well Jimmy Carter fits that bill.

Today, 39th President of the United States Jimmy Carter celebrates his 95th birthday.

Although the title for the oldest living former US president once went to George H.W. Bush pictured beside Carter here, it is now he who has that honor.

Although he hasn't been president for 38 years, Carter remains impressively busy trying to make a difference in the world.

He continues to work hard building homes for Habitat For Humanity, and even did so just months after undergoing hip surgery.

And as CNN reported, he and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter have been "committed to advancing human rights and alleviating unnecessary human suffering" through their Carter Center organization since 1982.

Curiously, Carter has also won three Grammy awards in 2007, 2016, and 2019.

According to CNN, these wins were in the Best Spoken Word Album category and were awarded for the audio versions of his books, Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis, A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety, and Faith - A Journey For All.

To mark this special day, The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta will be open until 8 pm.

As CNN reported, they're also charging only $0.95 for entry today and will feature a free screening of Smokey and the Bandit, which was made in Carter's home state of Georgia.

Carter himself, however, simply plans to spend a quiet day at home today.

As he does so, however, he'll have thousands of birthday wishes to enjoy as they've been sent to the Carter Center website from as far as Zambia, South Korea, and Australia.

Hopefully, Mr. Carter will have a pleasant, relaxing birthday to look forward to.
