Ex-President Jimmy Carter Makes It To Rally Despite Black Eye And Needing Stitches After Fall

In recent years, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has shown incredible resilience.

Despite facing a dehydration scare in 2017 and undergoing hip surgery this year, he remains as dedicated to the hard work that comes with being a Habitat For Humanity volunteer as ever.

Indeed, he has made it clear that when he's passionate about something, nothing will stand in the way of him seeing it through. And although an unfortunate situation has presented yet another challenge for Carter, he's already proved that again.

Soon after the oldest living former U.S. president celebrated his 95th birthday, he was scheduled to appear at a concert thrown by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.

As AP News reported, both country stars are Habitat For Humanity volunteers and the Sunday concert was intended to rally volunteers for a new project in Nashville, Tennessee.

When Carter took the stage, however, it was clear that he had been injured.

He suffered a fall at his Plains, Georgia home yesterday morning, which required 14 stitches and left him with a black eye.

However, he was able to make the trip up to Tennessee that very evening and addressed the crowd alongside former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

As he said, he had a "Number one priority and that was to come to Nashville and build houses."

And he's got a pretty ambitious project ahead of him.

According to AP News, one neighborhood in Nashville will have 21 new houses in it once the organization's work is done there.

And while Carter has never been afraid of getting down to the rough business of building homes, that's not the only humanitarian work he's involved with.

He's expressed hopes that his Carter Center organization can have a forceful impact against armed conflicts throughout the world, including those started by the United States.

As he put it, "I just want to keep the whole world at peace. We have been at war more than 226 years. We have been at peace for about 16 years."
