Sia Reveals She's Suffering From Rare Neurological Disease And Is 'Taking Time Off'

Despite almost always covering her face with dramatic wigs and acessories, singer-songwriter Sia is often upfront and honest with her fans about her life and her mental and physical well-being. Sia recently took to her Twitter to make a slew of health related announcements.

It all began with one tweet reaching out to those who are also suffering chronic pain.

"Hey, I'm suffering with chronic pain, a neurological disease, ehlers danlos and I just wanted to say to those of you suffering from pain, whether physical or emotional, I love you, keep going. Life is [expeletive] hard. Pain is demoralizing, and you're not alone," she started her Twitter thread.

She then took a moment to clarify.

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is "is a group of inherited disorders that affect your connective tissues — primarily your skin, joints and blood vessel walls."

Actress and activist Jameela Jamil also has EDS, and offered her support and knowledge to the singer.

Sia then went into more detail surrounding her neurological disease.

Alongside revealing that she is severely hypothyroid and suffering from complex post-traumatic stress disorder, Sia announced she has neuralgia, "a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensation from your face to your brain," meaning that even slight stimulation of the face can result in intense pain.

Sia stated she would be 'taking time off' to do intensive therapy.

Originally, Sia had planned for a musical to be released in October of this year, but this does not seem likely given her complicated medial history.

Sia finished on a positive note.

Sia ended with a joke about not having any STDs, and emphasized her gratefulness for having resources. She also stated, "KEEP GOING!"
