We tend to think of animals in the wild as being engaged in a brutal, heartless battle for survival, where only the fittest live for very long, and where mercy is rewarded with cruelty.
So scenes like this one really throw our expectations for a loop.
For example, this pig and chicken pair who hit it off at a sanctuary and clearly have a long-lasting and close friendship.
It's a lot more unexpected when it actually occurs in the wild.
The goose just welcomed the little pup into its soft, downy embrace to help warm it up.
Their reputation for hissing and biting precedes them and it's a very real possibility if they decide the area you need to pass through is their territory.
As for those who were team goose all along, this moment served as proof that we weren't giving geese a fair shake.
"I keep telling people geese aren't evil," wrote one person. "I've lived near Canadian geese my whole life, and they've always been decent to me."
"That mom knows how to mom," wrote one person.
"Geese are misunderstood," wrote another, "they're the best mothers of all time."
