People In Texas Eat Pickles At Movie Theaters And Had No Idea No One Else Does

I don't know about you, but for me a trip to the movie theater means a cup of soda and a giant tub of hot, freshly popped popcorn, bathing in a golden pool of extra butter.

Maybe you like nachos, maybe you like candy, or maybe you like eating movie theater hot dogs — hey, you're paying an arm and a leg for this stuff, you might as well get what you absolutely love, right?

I support you in all your movie-related snacking ventures. Although I have to admit, there's one theater food I just can't seem to wrap my head around. Pickles. I'm talking about pickles.

Maybe you haven't heard, but apparently it's totally kosher (get it?) for people in Texas to eat pickles at the movies.

Back in 2018, Buzzfeed shared a pretty mind-blowing exposé on this dietary phenomenon and revealed that Texans quite enjoy their theater pickles, thank you very much.

In fact, it's as normal to them as eating popcorn. Movies = dill pickles. It's that simple.

Individual pickles are available for purchase at many concession stands, and just like any other movie food, they're ridiculously overpriced.

As you can see in this picture, a single pickle costs $2.45 at this particular location. Considering that the average jar full of pickles costs somewhere in the $4-5 range, dropping anything more than $1 on just one gherkin seems a little steep.

But that's the movies for you. We spend $15 on a bag of popcorn and then just sort of pretend like that's somehow OK.

Apparently, some locations will even offer to drain a bit of that pickle juice for you which is what I call customer service.

Unsurprisingly, people from outside of Texas are usually shocked to stumble upon this theater delicacy and are keen to share their surprise on social media for the rest of us to gawk at in disbelief as well.

One Facebook thread revealed that people in Texas weren't actually aware they were doing anything out of the ordinary.

As BoredPanda reported, these locals are just so used to snacking on some delicious pickles with every movie visit that actually going to a theater with no pickles seems bizarre.

Oh, and it turns out pickles at the movies is actually the norm in Louisiana, too.

I'm honestly starting to think that maybe we're the weird ones for not dining on pickles when we go enjoy a movie. Maybe we should be taking a note from those folks down south and giving the ol' pickle party a try.

Or, you know, maybe not.

Judging from the comments online, plenty of non-pickle-people are still pretty opposed to the whole idea.

"I am not spending $2.45 for some weird theater pickle," one Tumblr user wrote. "Like where do they keep them? How do I eat them? What's the purpose???"

Another person added, "If I smelled a pickle in a movie theater I would get up and leave."

I know I was pretty anti-pickle myself in the beginning, but I think now I'm just going to go with the old "different strokes" approach to this one.

Unless, of course, you're putting your pickle into your bucket of popcorn like this person did in which case I'm sorry but you're on your own because that's nasty.

Does your movie theater offer pickles? Are you for or against this idea? Let us know in the comments below!
