High School Turns Hallways Into Giant Book Murals

Getting students excited about learning is a tall order for many teachers. That's why it's so important to inspire creativity in any way you can.

That's exactly what one high school in Illinois did for their students when they transformed certain hallways into giant book murals. And the reaction from students and teachers was totally awesome. See exactly how this project came about.

When students returned from their winter break they got the biggest surprise.

The Mundelein High School’s English department got an awesome makeover with giant literary-themed book murals. Whoa, that's amazing.

The school actually commissioned six floor-to-ceiling murals outside the classrooms of various teachers from the English department namely Mr. Ryan Buck, Mr. Mike Dayton, and Mr. Mark Landuyt.

So cool!

The murals represent the favorite books of each of the departments’ English teachers. They were printed on adhesive vinyl sheets and wrap around sections of the wall like book jackets.

The idea for this project was to transform the space in a way that encourages students to do more reading.

I honestly think this is the most brilliant idea.

Not only the chosen books were the teacher's favorites but also the type of books that most students would enjoy reading such as "Wuthering Heights" or "All American Boys".

Lots of great picks here.

The cost for the murals was about $2,400 and they were outsourced to a Wisconsin-based company, Visual Image Photography.

This seems like a great investment in inspiring reading in students.

When the school posted pictures of the murals they received lots of positive reactions not only from the school's students but from teachers and students all over the world.

Nice!

Looks like this cool creative project may even inspire other schools to do something like this at their school.

Many people voiced their approval of doing something similar too.

I say anything that inspires kids to read more books is totally a wonderful idea.

I would have loved to see something like this at my high school.
