35 People Who Did Things We Never Would Have Thought To Try

The first step to achieving things in life is trying. But what you want to achieve is really what sets you apart from others. Whether you want to run a corner store or an international conglomerate, whether you want to hit a home run or catch a picture of a home run, it all starts with a dream.

The folks below all went just a bit off the beaten path with their accomplishments and it really made them stand out. After all, it never would have occurred to us to even try.

Is it a center for ants?

Reddit | chr1su

No, it's a record store for mice, of course. Someone spotted this on the streets of Lund, Sweden, where they're apparently so cool with having mice around, they made this tiny, cool storefront just for them.

And it has some incredible attention to detail, too.

Have you ever seen anything more gnarly?

I didn't even know that 115-foot waves were all that common but apparently they appear often enough off the coast of Portugal to attract a particularly brave breed of surfers. Just check out Sebastian Steudtner's insane ride down one of these monsters.

A bright idea.

Reddit | AnnaPineappleArt

Not sure what the occasion was but it's safe to say that this person likely didn't have to worry about anyone else coming dressed like this.

"I reconstructed an old Ikea lamp, added LEDs, and made myself into a human chandelier," they explained. Yep, never would have thought of that one.

Impressive.

Reddit | DJ-Long

Was it boredom? A dare? A personal challenge? I don't know the reason but someone decided to make a double helix out of change.

It's an impressive stack, that's for sure. I don't even know anybody who has that much change anymore, to be honest.

Well, it's a better hobby than amateur dentistry.

Home rocket science doesn't usually get to scales quite like this, where two guys fire up a full-size rocket engine they built in their garage.

That's not a model; that's a weekend warrior space program right there. Not too shabby.

Tape Snape.

Reddit | tentoesandcounting

Yes, that's artwork done in tape on someone's bedroom wall, quite fittingly of Professor Snape.

It's definitely not the medium many artists would choose but you can't deny how effective it was for this artwork.

Practical!

Reddit | strangeratchet

Some Lyft driver must have been tired of shampooing and vacuuming their floors after particularly messy passengers because they laid linoleum down on the floor of their car.

You have to admit, that's much easier to clean. But it's not the solution I would have tried.

Jammin'.

The obvious question with this setup is why use fruit? I mean, it works. Obviously, the guy is rocking his synth harder than peak Devo, but why watermelon, cantaloupe, and kiwi?

I guess to have a tasty snack when the session is over? Is he going by DJ Brunch?

Nerds!

Reddit | radical_crab_

It's debatable as to whether the Nerds are better off like this or are better being eaten, but who out there would have considered organizing their candy by size in a pyramid?

It's definitely a nerd thing to do though, amirite?

It really works!

Reddit | veghammer

Someone with a broken light bulb decided to try that old life hack where you cut a potato in half, jam it onto the broken stub, and twist it all off. Who knew, it actually did the trick!

Sweet second breakfast!

Reddit | blodger42

Okay, organizing Nerds is one thing and turning jelly beans into art is another thing entirely. Yes, this image of Frodo Baggins with a palm full of power is done in jelly beans.

Is this overkill?

Of course, if I turned an old airplane engine into a motorcycle whose wheels had no spokes, I would ride it everywhere, too.

It's amazing...and maybe just a little bit insane. Impressive, but insane.

That's some odd curb appeal.

Reddit | The_Techsan

This house is almost entirely below ground, basically just a basement with a roof.

Apparently, during tough times some folks would pour a foundation for a house but couldn't afford to build the rest, so they just lived in the foundation with a roof over top.

The perfect parking job.

Reddit | barlosmiguel

Not sure I would have even noticed that my trailer lined up with the landscape but this person sure did. Always nice when life lines up like that!

Okay then.

Reddit | noonelikesyou

"Melted some beer cans and made a shiny rock," the uploader of this pic explained.

Now they have this unique souvenir and, who knows, maybe they've started a trend of folks wanting their own chunks of shiny aluminum.

"Forged a miniature knife."

Reddit | ash_472

Okay, so there are a few people out there who have undertaken metal working as a hobby. Not sure what you're even supposed to do with a little knife like this, but there it is.

That's next level.

This person just won at hacking, I do believe. If you can hack a pregnancy test to play Doom on it, you've just won in my books, anyway.

From drab to fab.

Reddit | tahrian2005

This is like those old Wile E. Coyote cartoons but rather than painting a tunnel onto the side of a rock, the artist has made a much more inviting scene on the side of a house. Just beautiful.

So tiny, so perfect.

Reddit | Riley-2k25

I guess folding smaller and smaller things is a good challenge for your origami skills, which would explain why someone made this minuscule paper crane.

You have to admit, that would take some patience and practice!

Protected for life.

This person showed off their 100% complete Lego shield collection, sporting every shield piece the company ever made. This has to be the most niche collection I've ever seen, which makes it all the more impressive!

The power of reflections.

When your bedroom window gets no sun, you have to think outside the box, or house, in order to shine some light on in.

The ghosts of escalators past.

At Wynyard train station in Sydney, they use old escalator tracks as decoration. Wouldn't be my first choice, but it does create an odd, sort of industrial look.

Soda pop gamble.

That YOLO button dispenses a random drink. I love the thrill of surprise too much to pass that up if I saw it, despite knowing I'd be disappointed if I got a Coke Zero.

Folding the days away.

This is a form of origami called tesselation, where instead of creating objects or the like, you fold the paper into a pattern.

This proves that people who make origami are the most patient people on Earth.

A normal family.

These panda caretakers are in disguise to help teach this baby panda how to live in the wild. Man, I wish I was in the meeting where this idea was pitched.

Sweet and speedy.

A jar of Subaru-brand honey that a dealership harvests from the hives on their roof. Talk about an unexpected collab.

Treetop protest.

To protest logging actions of the Pacific Lumber Company, activist Julia Butterfly Hill lived in a redwood tree for two years! She raised over $50,000 with her efforts, and the tree she lived in still stands today.

Casting spooky shadows.

Honestly, this type of light is exactly my vibe. I want to live in a Halloween-esque fairy tale forest so bad.

Rooms with a view.

Created by a company in Turkey, these roof tiles also act as birdhouses. It's such a brilliant, simple idea that I can't help but be blown away by it.

A smooth finish.

Someone polished a coconut. Don't know why, but now you've seen it too. Congrats.

Like a display case.

This is kind of the other end of the spectrum and it's either a dream or a nightmare to spend the night in the woods in a bubble like this.

Personally, I prefer privacy enough to consider a night in the woods in this an accomplishment.

The lap of luxury.

This user's aunt made a couch for their cat. If I had the crocheting skills, you bet I'd make a whole furniture set for my cat. It's the least she deserves.

Friendly, reptilian faces.

At Paga Crocodile Pond in Ghana, the crocodile population is so friendly that people are invited to swim and hang out with them.

I believe it, but there's still no way I'd ever get near one of those things. I don't trust like that.

Sharing the space.

Today I learned that some cities have trains run through residential areas. I also learned how grateful I am that my home isn't anywhere near train tracks.

Thinly veiled.

This person cut a slice of watermelon so thin that you could see the natural patterns inside. I guess they really only wanted a little bit of watermelon.
