Here's How Much To Walk In Order To Lose Weight

Woking out can seem so daunting, trust me — I totally get it. With fitness and working out becoming more and more trendy, it can be super hard for the average person to find motivation to get started on their own fitness journeys.

And I get it, having to commit to a gym membership isn't for everyone and it also seems like more work than it needs to be.

Not to mention it's expensive and intimidating.

Thankfully, walking is a great alternative.

I know, right? So easy and low impact!

You get to actually go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.

And with spring time being here, what better time to take a scenic walk?

So, may be wondering how much walking you'll need to do in order to lose weight.

Not that wanting to walk means you must want to lose weight. You do you, boo!

In terms of how many calories burned, there's a simple way to check.

3500 calories roughly equals one pound of fat.

Walking one mile can be calculated into roughly 2000 steps.

Time to grab that Fitbit!

2000 steps translates into about 100 calories burned. So, If you're looking to lose one pound a week, you would want to walk about 10000 steps per day or about 5 miles

But, there's a catch.

The calorie amounts would only be true if your weight isn't moving.

The average adult calorie consumption to maintain weight can be anywhere between 2000-2500 calories per day.

So, when coupled with a healthy diet (lots of fresh fruits, whole grains and leafy green vegetables) walking can be an awesome alternative to a "gym" workout.

Which can be very motivating for those who aren't so excited about slammin' iron in the gym.

Plus, a Stanford study even found that walking improves creativity.
