People Are Growing Gardens Directly Out Of Soil Bags

Kasia Mikolajczak

I know gardening can be a chore. There's a lot to do to set things up right. It's no wonder that some folks out there are looking to make things easier for themselves.

If I can get something done in half the time, then sign me up. So when I heard about this latest gardening hack, I was all ears.

One thing that's annoying about gardening is making sure weeds aren't taking over.

That's a job that's I bet every gardener dreads. So what if I told you there is a better way to ensure no pesky weeds pop out?

Apparently, people are growing their veggies right out of the potting soil bags.

OMG, what? I never heard doing something like that. Am I the only one? I can't be, right? Have you ever heard of gardening sorcery like this?

Okay, so how does this really work?

First, you need to get two cubic feet of potting mix. Then you need to lay the bags on an even surface. Loosen the soil a bit and poke a few holes in the back of the bags.

The best thing to do is place your potting soil on metal sawhorses and grates.

This will make your “garden” waist level. Not only will this give you better access, but it gets the bags off the hot concrete, too.

Once you have your bags up high, cut out the top and leave about a four or five-inch border around the perimeter.

Then rake the soil to loosen it up more. Now you're ready to start planting your seeds.

How do you spread your seeds evenly?

There's a trick for that. Combine cornmeal and the seeds in an old spice bottle. Sprinkle the seeds through the soil. When you see the cornmeal, you'll realize whether the seeds need separating or not.

Now you're ready to watch your new garden grow.

Make sure you water your plants often and get ready to see some sprouts come out soon. Can you believe this idea is as simple as it sounds? I would never have thought of that.

When people learned of this unique gardening method on Facebook, they were pleasantly surprised.

Many of them vowed to do it themselves this year instead of a regular garden. It is definitely a fool-proof way to eliminate and unwanted weeds in your garden.

So what do you think of this unique soil bag 'garden' idea?

Would you use this method instead of what you typically do? I have to say I'm pretty intrigued by this. I might look into implementing it in my backyard this year.
