The Met Gala is one of the most anticipated social events of the year. It's been called fashion's biggest night out and has historically been a time for Hollywood's biggest celebrities to flex their style muscles.

This year, actress Blake Lively looked positively stunning, donning one of the evening's most memorable gowns. As it turns out, the dress was bursting with hidden meaning, thus proving there's often more to fashion than what simply meets the eye.

After all, they are amongst the group of celebrity couples that people absolutely adore. Yes, that includes me.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have, since day one, stolen everyone's hearts.

But Blake Lively in particular stole everyone's gaze at the 2022 Met Gala.

She originally came out with a copper-colored dress that had a huge bow on the side, looking absolutely regal (but then again, when doesn't she) before she stopped on the stairs to shock us all.

A team came to come help her for her great unveiling.

She switched her gloves and they undid her bow, to reveal the "oxidized" version of her dress, a turquoise train falling from the bow.

Yeah, she knows how to make headlines, that's for sure.

While walking the red carpet, Blake stopped to explain how her dress was inspired by the architecture of New York City.

Blake began by pointing out how the train of her dress was inspired by the constellations depicted on the ceiling at Grand Central Station.

She then went on to say how the bustier of the dress was meant to represent the Empire State Building.

The draping, as well as the crown, were carefully designed to serve as an homage to the Statue of Liberty.

The crown itself had seven tiers, intended to represent the seven rays of Lady Liberty.

"The Statue of Liberty has seven rays, representing the sun's rays, and then also the seven seas and continents, which represent welcomeness, inclusivity, and freedom," Blake said.

Blake then joked about how she thought she sounded like a Wikipedia page.

But then she divulged that her crown also had twenty-five stones.

These stones are also significant, as they are meant to embody the twenty-five viewing windows found in the Statue of Liberty's crown.

"I've patinated," Lively said to LaLa Anthony in Vogue's live stream.

"This dress is an homage to New York City and so many of the classic, iconic buildings."

"'Who's actually going to be counting the stones?'" she recalled. "'Me, I'm a Virgo,'" she said with a laugh.

"This year was especially nervewracking being one of the hosts," she continued.

"I thought a neat perspective on the theme would be looking at the city that I love so much and the architecture, rather than just the fashion."

And Blake's dress caught the most important eye of all: the eye of her husband, Ryan Reynolds.

Reynolds was caught on video looking on in awe and quite frankly, in absolute adoration as his wife did her unveiling on the steps.

Fans all over the internet said it best: we want a love like this one.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so this video feels like it is worth a million. They definitely won this Met Gala, that's for sure!
