So, what did you do during the great lockdown of 2020? I worked, my friends learned new hobbies, and this guy? Well, this guy built his daughter an entire secret Diagon Alley behind her wardrobe.
Yup, you read that right. While the rest of us were watching Netflix, this dad (aka Ella's Dad) got to work building a secret street for his Harry Potter-loving daughter. Let's take a look.
Take a step inside and enter a whole new world, just for her! Ella's Dad, Dylan, spent much of his time in lockdown planning out the project.
He sat down with Bored Panda to talk through his idea, his process, and Ella's reaction!
"I wanted to do something special for Ella after homeschooling while I was working too and staying in so much."
The rest, he did with the help of friends and family.
"The street surface is Lino which is soft and warm to walk on. I also live in a street of many kind people, so I was given old photo frames which I used for shop windows."
"Then mainly I had lots of frame building and painting to do. It was a bit of a marathon doing it on my own, but music helped me through."
He is such a good dad, guys.
He bought a ton of stuff online, and wallpapered certain areas with a wallpaper with books on it. It added to the whole vibe, and helped him create the perfect world for Ella to play in!
Dylan suggested a game of hide-and-seek, which Ella agreed to. She knew he was up to something, but she had no idea the secret was behind her hiding spot in her wardrobe!
In fact, she said that exact thing! And then, of course, they got to playing.
"We played for the rest of the weekend, for example, making ice cream in the ice cream shop with a machine I found."
Including this necklace of Nicholas Flamel's infamous Philosopher's Stone (or Sorcerer's Stone, if you prefer). Ella also found some feathers for wands and a Gringotts bag!
