Johnny Depp is many things: a versatile actor, a musician, and a father. But one thing that he's not — shockingly — is an Oscar winner.

This news is sure to send shockwaves through the world, much like it did when people discovered that Leonardo DiCaprio didn't win an Oscar until 2016 for The Revenant.

But while Johnny is every bit deserving of an Oscar, the actor doesn't want it.

Johnny Depp's career is about as impressive as it gets.

He's one of Hollywood's most versatile actors, having starred in more than 89 films. This includes What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Edward Scissorhands, and five Pirates of the Caribbean films.

He's also worked alongside some amazing talent, such as Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie, Leonardo DiCaprio, and more.

Depp's first role was in 'A Nightmare on Elm Street.'

It was actually Nicholas Cage who helped land him the gig since the actor was friends with Johnny's wife at the time, makeup artist Lori Anne Allison.

The following year, the actor got his professional break on the TV show, '21 Jump Street'.

He played Tom Hanson, an officer who often went undercover in high schools to catch troubled youths.

Thanks to the role and Johnny's good looks, it wasn't long before he was considered a teen heartthrob.

But since Johnny resented this title, he left the series and went back to film.

In 1990, he appeared in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands.

This was a major hit and the professional chemistry between Burton and Johnny led to many more movies together.

This includes 'Sleepy Hollow' and 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.'

However, Depp's career hit its highest peak when he starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean in 2004.

The iconic role of the irreverent trickster was his (and only his) to play and he's reaped lots of recognition because of it.

This includes an Oscar nomination for his role in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.'

He has also been nominated for his roles in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Finding Neverland.

But while the Academy was smart enough to recognize Johnny's talent and range, he still hasn't actually won.

A lot of this could be due to the way the Academy chooses its winners.

For instance, it's no secret that the Academy prefers movie genres that are dramatic and biographical.

You're not likely to find a comedy nominated for an Oscar, much less for it to receive a high score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Consider the career of Matthew McConaughey, for instance.

He wasn't taken seriously as an actor until he dropped the romantic comedies, such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and took on dramatic roles, such as Dallas Buyers Club. His role in the film earned him his first-ever Academy Award.

Johnny, on the other hand, prefers to do roles that he loves.

If you're feeling sad for him, don't. Even he has admitted that he's fine not having an Oscar.

In 2015, he told the BBC that “I don’t want to win one of those things ever." Bold words. His reason for this was, “I don’t want to have to talk."

“The idea of winning means that you’re in competition with someone and I’m not in competition with anybody," he continued.

“They gave me one of those things, like a nomination, two or three times,” Depp continued. “A nomination is plenty.”

This sentence: "a nomination is plenty" is something we've all heard before. Same as, "it's just an honor to be nominated."

But while most of the actors who have said these things didn't really mean them, we have a feeling that Johnny does.

He doesn't need, nor want, an Oscar. We're sure winning his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard will be award enough!
