Queen Elizabeth II isn't monkeying around when it comes to her royal duties.

As the Queen of England, she is held to a high standard unlike no one else and has duties that we common folk can't understand. This includes carrying out great tasks on behalf of the nation and working alongside the Prime Minister.

The same goes for her eating habits. She can't just bite into a juicy burger like the rest of us, nor can she just peel a banana.

Darren McGrady, the Queen's long-time personal chef, has been the one to spill the beans on her eating habits.

In his book, Eating Royally: Recipes and Remembrances from a Palace Kitchen, McGrady, shared that the Queen eats four square meals per day, but only eats a small portion of each.

For breakfast, she likes to keep things simple with a cup of tea, biscuits, and a bowl of Special K cereal.

Lunch is often a healthy choice of a lean protein, such as grilled chicken, and a low carbohydrate option, such as salad.

Naturally, it's always tea time in the Queen's world.

“She’d always have afternoon tea wherever she was in the world. We’d flown out to Australia and were on the Royal Yacht. It was five o’clock in the morning but for the Queen it was five in the afternoon so my first job was making scones," McGrady wrote.

It's not just her meals that are regimented.

Her Majesty also has a certain way of eating everyday foods that is unlike how we've ever eaten them. Burgers, for instance, she eats without a bun and with a knife and fork.

"Her Majesty's Victorian upbringing dictates that the only thing you would pick up and eat with your fingers is afternoon tea," McGrady told Insider.

Even that has strict rules, though, as royal etiquette expert Myka Meier explained to People that royals must pinch the top of the teacup handle with their thumb and index finger.

Other strict rules include garlic and onion being kept to a minimum.

This is because the Queen has to meet people so often. “We could never serve garlic to the Queen but Prince Philip loved it. If we were at Balmoral and she was out, we’d slather his steak in garlic," McGrady explained.

“But when she was at the table, there was no garlic at all. It was seen as anti-social.”

Crustacean cuisine is also a major no-no for royals while they are out. According to The Sun, the last thing the Queen wants is to endure some sort of food reaction while away from her home.

It sure does sound like a lot of work to be a royal!

Even the way the Queen eats bananas is quite, well, bananas.

See, while most of us peel a banana and then eat the inside, McGrady recently told The Mirror that Her Majesty has a different technique.

She uses a knife and fork to cut off the bottoms and then slices the banana length-wise.

Once the fruit is released from the skin, she'll ever so graciously cut the banana into tiny slices to eat with a fork.

This technique is done so she doesn't look like a "gobbling monkey," according to McGrady.

A video of how this is done was even shared on TikTok by Etiquette expert William Hanson. “We don’t peel it like a primate," he said before demonstrating.

But instead of monkey-see-monkey-do, people in the comments were against the idea.

“My life is already complicated. I can’t deal with another stress," one wrote. Another added, "you are making it harder.. Life is already hard my goodness.”
