There are many things in life that are "romanticized" in life and drawn to be this great and special thing, but, in reality, are problematic and wrong. TV shows, movies, and social media can make a lot of things seem glamorous and special, but they're actually much harder and more complicated than one would think. People are sharing the things that society has to stop making to be so amazing.

Romantic relationships.

Rich_Group_8997 shared that far too many people feel as though romantic and intimate relationships are the number one goal in life and that everything else besides that is just not as important as being with someone else — it minimizes independence and success.

Celebrity lives.

HolyShit_I_did_it shared that the way that people obsess over celebrity lives, like the Kardashians and other people like them, can be rather strange and also weird. We don't know them, so we shouldn't be so invested in their lives.

Losing your virginity.

Bulliesvegetables said that too many people put so much pressure on individuals for their "first time" and it's not always that great. In fact, it's usually awkward and rather strange for people involved and not a huge thing.

Motherhood.

"I feel scammed by the society when it’s about how maternity is shown. It’s [expletive] hard. It is still being so hard for me to build myself up after the birth and it’s very hard to open up to people about how I actually feel because of fear of being labeled as bad mother," shared Unusual_Sorbet1009.

Overworking and working overtime.

blueeyedlies shared that people think working extra hours and overtime is so glamorous and admirable, but no one gives out awards for people who overextend themselves in such a way that they are burnt out and tired.

Having "perfect" moments.

melasuarus said that people romanticize having the "perfect" engagement or anniversary or wedding so that everyone else can see, instead of living in the moment and appreciating things for what they are. Enjoy the moments instead of wanting to brag.

Or having a perfect life.

"A lot of people believe that after graduation you should land a great job, meet the love of your life, get married, have 1.5 kids and live in a nice home. Things often don’t happen that way and that’s okay," said starskyandbutch.

Jealousy.

lastseenhitchhiking said so many people feel like having a jealous partner or a jealous ex, or even a jealous friend, is something that's romantic and special but in reality, it's very creepy and weird. And, it can be dangerous.

Traveling so much.

mlle_keri shared that she loves to travel and experiencing new things, but not having a "home base" or traveling too often can be a huge drag and a pain. You should always have someone or somewhere to call home and go back to.

Social media.

diveintomysoul confessed that too many people feel like social media is so great and sharing every moment of your life and existence is fun, but in reality, it's a competition that hurt people mentally and emotionally. It becomes toxic.

Constant communication.

"Constant contact. I'm sure a majority of people have cell phones, access to email, social media, etc. But stop confusing accessibility as availability and romanticizing the speed in which we reply to people to mean either A. They clearly love you or B. Clearly they hate you," said StrongFreeBrave.

Studying or working in public.

when_in_doubt__doubt shared that so many people want to go to coffee shops or places to work in public and study, but it's not really that great. It's loud, noisy, and you're always being bothered or fighting for an outlet to charge your computer.

Drug abuse.

summerinsummerisle said that people in TV shows and movies romanticize addiction and drug abuse as something that is cool and "in," when in reality it is a never-ending struggle and battle, which can ruin people's lives.

Being poor.

denyseairme said that too many people today are trying to romanticize being poor, but it's not that way at all. Growing up with very little money or finances, it can be a choice of whether to pay the bills or have food in the fridge.

Diet culture.

"Diet and fitness culture. So much fake information about what a healthy meal is and unhealthy 6-days-a-week routines. There are no shortcuts and if you don't rest you won't see results as fast as you want," said Glirel.
