Trump Supporters Call Kevin Costner ‘Brain-Dead’ After His White House Criticism

When it comes to voicing political opinions, celebrities differ a lot in terms of what they are and aren't willing to share with the world.

Some people choose to appear completely neutral, while others use their platform in the public eye to fight the fight of the right or the left.

Actor and musician Kevin Costner has never shied away from sharing his political beliefs.

In 2008 he stated publicly that though he was brought up in a conservative household, he was "no longer a republican," and in 2016 he voiced that he didn't find the controversy behind the presidential election "funny", but rather "embarrassing and immature."

In a recent interview, Costner had a lot to say about "living in Trump's America."

“The political landscape is unrecognizable to me," he told Variety "Shame on us for being in that spot."

He thinks that the political landscape could change if people started thinking "big picture" rather than just about themselves.

"America isn't first in hardly anything that matters and we have an inflated idea about how we are."

Costner is referencing the idea of manifest destiny, or the long believed idea that America is the greatest country in the world simply because it was 'destined' to be.

Costner was then asked about former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Though she has stated on numerous occasions that she has no interest in running for president, Costner said that she would have his vote:

Michelle’s incredibly bright and articulate and has possessed good judgement and experience as a result. Why couldn’t she be [president]? She’d have a level of interest from me.

His comment regarding the former First Lady provoked a wave of insults from Trump supporters.

"Another has been actor who thinks we care about what he thinks" writes one user, "News Flash Costber, we don't."

A lot of people took his comments as a personal attack on their political beliefs.

Though Costner's comments were not directed at Trump specifically, his supporters adamantly defended the president anyway.

"He must be totally brain-dead"

He support of Michelle Obama was apparently the last straw for some people.

The whole ordeal seemed to be the perfect opportunity for people to attack Costner's character.

What does his support of Michelle Obama have to do with him being a womanizer?

A few folks stepped in to support him.

"Not that I'm a Costner fan," one person writes, "But I appreciate him telling it like it is."

The tweet was interestingly phrased, as a lot of republicans claim that they like Trump because he "Tells it like it is."

If he's shared his opinion on politics before, why is it such a big deal now?

Kevin Costner didn't throw us any curve balls here. We knew his opinion on the administration from the start, and we shouldn't be surprised at his support of the Obamas.
