Anthony Hopkins, 83, Was Asleep In Bed When He Won Best Actor At The Oscars

We've all slept through some pretty important life events at some time or another. If you're like me and simply HAVE to be in bed by 9pm every night, you know the feeling of waking up to find out that you missed the craziest thing at some award show or another.

It looks like the legendary Anthony Hopkins understands that pain better than most!

On Sunday, Anthony Hopkins won the Oscar for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his role in The Father.

Anthony, however, was not present to accept the award himself — and the reason why is SO relatable.

"Tony was in Wales, where he grew up, and he was asleep at 4 in the morning when I woke him up to tell him the news," his agent told People. "He was so happy and so grateful."

Yep, not only was it a special win for the star, who had previously won for his infamous portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in Silence Of The Lambs, but it was a record, too!

Anthony, at 83, became the oldest living actor to take home the trophy!

His agent continued: "After a year in quarantine, and being double-vaccinated, he was finally able to return to Wales, and age 83, it was a great relief after such a difficult year."

"But he loved the role in The Father – it's his proudest performance – and to be the oldest living actor to win in the category means so much to him," his agent said.

Of course, once he was awake, Anthony reacted to the news himself.

Once it hit a reasonable hour for the star in Wales, he shared a video of himself to social media.

"At 83 years of age, I did not expect to get this award. I really didn’t. I’m very grateful to the Academy, and thank you," Anthony said in the video of him standing outside on a beautiful looking day.

Anthony also acknowledged a fellow nominee for the role, Chadwick Boseman, who passed away last year after a fight with cancer.

“I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early,” Anthony said. "I really did not expect this. So I feel very privileged and honored. Thank you.”

While some fans felt Chadwick deserved the award, it's clear that Anthony is a class act as always!
